Red Scooter Autumn

Here at Red Scooter, we like to kick up our heels and party like no other venue. However, we also value the opportunity to give something back to the community and make a difference in peoples' lives. In recent times, we have been privileged to host a number of charity functions and events, all raising significant amounts of money for their most worthwhile causes.

Also in this issue, Red Scooter hopes to add to its increasing number of awards, a staff member receives the ultimate recognition from her educational institution and we host Australia's best impersonator as part of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival - with free gourmet food!

In association with the Wish to Walk Foundation, on March 21st Red Scooter hosted a charity auction night for Isabel Martin, aged nine. The purpose of the event was to raise as much money as possible for Isabel, who became paraplegic after having a tumour removed from her spine when she was just 8 months old. The fun-filled evening was full of laughter, had free-flowing drinks, the excitement of a silent auction and the great feeling shared that it was all to help a little girl's wish come true.

Overall, more than $60,000 was raised to go towards equipment and treatment for Isabel, such as a standing wheelchair and hyperbaric oxygen therapy.

In early 2009, Red Scooter helped raise money for Rotary St.Kilda by contributing to 'Relish', a cookbook comprised of recipes contributed by eateries and venues in the City of Port Phillip. The proceeds were equally divided between the Sacred Heart Mission and Shelterbox, which delivers humanitarian aid relief worldwide in the form of material and equipment (eg. shelter, warmth and comfort).

On March 19th, Red Scooter provided food, drinks and staff to 'Tastes of St.Kilda' as part of the Melbourne Food & Wine Festival. The event was held at the Linden Gallery in St.Kilda, where awards were presented for the best of the recipes in 'Relish'. Surrounded by unique and varied art pieces, the crowd sampled delicacies from our cocktail menu, including Peking' duck pancakes, rice paper rolls and an array of gourmet sushi.

As a state winner of an award (Best Specialty Venue - VIC), Red Scooter has been nominated as a national finalist in our particular category, with the winner to be announced at the 2009 MEA Conference Gala Dinner and Awards presentation in Adelaide. We believe that our success is largely due to the ongoing commitment, dedication and innovation shown by all of our staff and we can't thank them enough.

As an employee at Red Scooter for over 2 years, Hadassah is a well-respected member of the team. We would like to wish her congratulations for receiving the award for 'best second-year apprentice chef for 2008' from the Box Hill Institute of TAFE for 2008.

Well done Hadassah, and keep up the great work!

On March 19th a gala dinner and fundraiser was held by Fred Health, in order to raise money for their executive assistant Nat Edwards, who has been diagnosed with stage 4 melanoma cancer. Since courageously fighting the disease since 2007, Nat has been steadfast in her commitment to her colleagues and clients, all the while facing ongoing treatment, indicative of her strong and good-willed character.

With the aim of helping Nat with the costs of treatment and medication, a lively evening of great food, entertainment and auctions was held at Red Scooter, much to the delight of all who were present. In the end, over $40,000 was raised, and we hope this helps alleviate the financial burden on Nat as she continues her battle.
