Sustainable development means being concerned about climate change and the green house gases that are a major cause – it’s worth doing what you can do to help reduce the environmental impact of your wedding.

Red Scooter is the only carbon positive reception venue in Melbourne committed to sustainable development and making your day green.  Read about our commitment to Green Events.

How do receptions and events create green house gases?

All events can be carbon neutral and part of sustainable development if you choose a green day environmentally aware function venue.

The green house gases (primarily carbon in the form of carbon dioxide) emitted as the result of all events fall into two broad categories; carbon emissions related to the venue itself and those caused by you and your guests.

Function venues and carbon emissions

Sources of carbon emissions from weddings at a function venue include:
  • Energy generated by the use of fossil fuels used for air-conditioning, lighting, cooking, sound systems and other activities using electricity or gas.
  • The food miles caused by transporting menu ingredients to the venue and emission from staff travelling to work.
  • Carbon emissions that result from the production of consumables and services used by the reception venue – everything from paper to the laundry service.

Your special day and your carbon emissions

Sources of non-venue green house gas emissions from your wedding can include:
  • Carbon emitted as the result of making or transporting consumables for your event, such as paper and mail transport.
  • The emission from you and your guests travelling to the function.
If you would like to contribute to sustainable development by using carbon offsets to make your reception –truly carbon positive, we will be happy to help.
